Refuse & Resist! proudly supports the act of courageous resistance exhibited by Denver Nugget player Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. Over the years as his political and religious education intensified, Abdul-Rauf became unable to tolerate standing for the American flag, which he came to view as a 'symbol of oppression, of tyranny'.

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf decided that telling the truth was more important than his NBA career and $2.6 million contract. His Islamic and political beliefs prevent him from promoting the emblem of his oppressors. In a country where religious beliefs (at least Christian religious beliefs) are protected, Abdul-Rauf's position should be admired. The outrage over his stance only points out the deep racial divide in this country.

Whether he returns to basketball or not, Abdul-Rauf is a roll model. He is a dignified man of integrity. The NBA players and coaches should refuse to play any more games until the rules are reversed. Anti-patriotism is not a crime.
