ATTENTION RESISTERS!
From January 31 - February 4, 2002, New York City will host the World Economic Forum (WEF) -- 1,000 top business leaders who will come together to shape their global agenda. Here in New York we have formed a greeting committee to welcome them to our fine city!
On Saturday, February 2, join the Refuse & Resist! contingent at the mass rally and march to the Waldorf-Astoria. We'll be gathering at the NW corner of 59th and 5th Ave at 12:00 pm. Look for the Refuse & Resist! banner.
Behind the closed doors of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel delegates will make decisions that affect the lives of people around the world. The W.E.F. and similar institutions work to weaken environmental protections and worker rights, support repressive regimes, widen the gap between rich and poor and - in the wake of September 11th - upholds attacks on immigrants and dissent in the US and acts of war in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
But war and repression aren't the only responses to the horrors of 9-11. From January 31 - February 4, community activists, youth, environmentalists, union members, religious leaders, and everyday people will come to New York to talk about a future far different than the one being planned for us -- and we'll have our voices heard!
Also look for the Refuse & Resist! table at the Counter-Summit at Columbia University on Thursday and Friday. For more information or to get involved, contact the NY Chapter at 212.431.7377 or email us at xxrefusexx@hotmail.com. Finally, check out the following calendar of other counter-WEF events happening over the course of the meetings.
Everyone planning to participate in Saturday's demonstration should have the legal number. In case of arrest, call 917-807-0658.
