Since 911, a stunning array of repressive regulations fueled by this government’s proclaimed “war without end” have been instituted to ensure “our safety”. The national litmus test of you are either with us or against us attempts to make public debate impossible. The President has seized unprecedented powers and restructured government to spy on, intimidate and suppress anyone inside or outside this nation. We say: The Big Brother atmosphere will NOT make people safer. It creates a climate of fear and repression.
The U.S.'s high tech and brutal year long war against Afghanistan has left that country in a state of disaster. The government promises to expand the "war without limits" to places that have no connection to the events of 9/11/2001. On June 1st, Bush announced that the U.S. government has the right to preemptively and unilaterally strike anywhere in the world that needs a regime change, without regard for national sovereignty, the rights and lives of people, or international law and public opinion. A major war with Iraq looms on the horizon. The institution of police state measures in this country has overturned hard won civil rights, while this government’s aggressive and unilateral interventio ns abroad violate international law.
The U.S. has embarked on a new course, both domestically and globally. This current direction is intolerable. It must be resisted! Across the country, our collective voices of resistance need to be raised. It will take a great social movement, involving many, many people of all walks of life and varying views, and much imagination and determination to stop this police state.

Refuse & Resist!'s mission is to build a climate, culture and community of resistance. We are unique in our approach to bring together a wide variety of people to oppose the dominant national agenda of repression, cruelty and punishment. We encourage many forms of resistance: speaking out in schools and in the media; organizing large forums or small book clubs and video showings; demonstrating in the streets; writing or performing cultural works; and especially by joining R&R! and contributing financially. We are students and teachers, youth, artists, working people, professionals and activists, well known and "ordinary" people. We are of different nationalities and political beliefs.
