September 11 Victims' Families Report Back from Eight Days in Afghanistan

New York City resident Rita Lasar, whose brother was lost at the World Trade Center, will speak in Brooklyn on January 27 a day after her return from Afghanistan.

The Report From Afghanistan will be held Sunday, January 27, 7 p.m., at the Park Slope United Methodist Church (6th Avenue and 8th Street) in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The event is open to the public and will be hosted by award-winning Pacifica Radio Network journalist Amy Goodman. Sponsors include Park Slope Greens, NYC War Resisters League and Brooklyn Ethical Culture Society.

Ms. Lasar traveled with three other family members of September 11 victims to meet with families in Afghanistan who lost loved ones during the U.S. bombing. The group arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan on January 14 and proceeded to Kabul on January 15. They have received international press coverage for the historic meetings designed to build new, human ties between Americans and Afghans.

New York City resident Rita Lasar, whose brother was lost at the World Trade Center, will speak in Brooklyn a day after her return from Afghanistan. Ms. Lasar's borther, Abe Zelmanowitz, was on the 27th floor of 1 World Trade Center when the first plane hit. Although he could have gotten out of the building, he chose instead to stay with his friend, a quadriplegic who remain trapped.

The victims-to-victims delegation was sponsored by Global Exchange, an international human rights organization based in San Francisco, whose director, Medea Benjamin, led the delegation. Ms. Benjamin will also speak on the 27th.
