Assemble at Union Square
On October 22, 2001, people of all races and many different backgrounds will take to the streets across the country to say in one loud voice: Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation!
In New York we will take the resistance higher and infuse the National Day of Protest (NDP) with the spirit of the people of Cincinnati, who took to the streets when local cops murdered Timothy Thomas for unpaid traffic tickets. The people refused to be worn down or turned around by either repression or lies. WE CALL ON YOU TO JOIN US in putting the authorities on notice that we will not be silent while police brutalize and murder people.
Even more this year on October 22nd, the National Day of Protest (NDP):
* The family members will have a platform from which to speak and tell the truth about how their relative was killed by the police and how they have struggled for justice ...
* The youth, the generation that is criminalized, will infuse the march with their spirit and energy ...
* Immigrants brutalized and killed at the border by La Migra, and terrorized in their homes and work places will tell and have their stories told...
* People fighting for justice in many different arenas in society will come together to stand with all these people ...
NDP aims to bring forward those most directly under the gun of Police Brutality AND to also reach into all parts of the society--bringing forward others to stand in the fight against this official brutality. The tentative march route is from Union Square to City Hall - more details as we near the date.
