La Resistencia Condemns Acquittal of Police Who Murdered Amadou Diallo - We Must Resist!

La Resistencia is outraged at the acquittal of the four police officers that brutally shot 19 bullets into the body of our immigrant brother Amadou Diallo, killing him while he stood unarmed in front of his home. We condemn the actions of the NYPD officers that are responsible for this brutal slaying. Further more, we are infuriated by the leniency granted to these murderers because they possess a badge.

This is not only an injustice for Amadou Diallo and his family, this is a loss for the people of the Bronx. This is a lesson from the court system and police to all of us that a badge is justification enough to execute innocent people. As stated by La Resistencia's four points of unity, being an immigrant is not a crime, human life is more important than laws. The only proven thing for which Amadou was guilty in the eyes of this government was being young, black, and an immigrant.

Since Clinton came into office, the roundup and deportation of immigrants throughout the country has tripled to over 150,000. Immigrants are hunted down at the border and in the cities, brutalized and murdered. The government s anti-immigrant hysteria has given a green light to the police, military and Border Patrol to kill immigrants with impunity. This hysteria has given these civil servants the ability to take on the name of judge, jury, and executioner as displayed in this acquittal.

Is Amadou's life not worth justice? Should we not be disgusted by this slap in the face? We demand justice for our brother. It took over 1,000 protesters being arrested in acts of civil disobedience, acts of outrage, to twist the arm of the district attorney into even indicting these cold blooded killers. They have now made it obvious that it will take thousands more to actually get justice in the name of our brother who was murdered at the hands of those are paid to supposedly serve and protect us.

We call on all members and supporters of La Resistencia to protest this outrage. Only a determined movement of resistance can stop all brutalities and murders of immigrants. Only the people can win justice.
