On June 2, 1995 the governor of Pennsylvania signed the death warrant, setting August 17, 1995 as the date for the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal. On August 7, 1995 Judge Sabo granted a stay of execution because "the law dictates that this Court grant the Defendant ample time to have these proceedings reviewed by the highest court of this Commonwealth..." On September 15, 1995 Judge Sabo denied the Petition for Post-Conviction Relief, refusing to grant a new trial. On Thursday, February 27, 1997 the Pennsylvania Supreme Court denied Mumia Abu-Jamal's motion for oral arguments in a one-sentence order. The court also granted a request by the District Attorney's office to file additional arguments in the case. This comes after the court had denied Mumia's attorneys' request to file additional responses. On October 29, 1998, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court unanimously let stand a lower court decision denying a new trial, and the Gov. Tom Ridge has promised to sign a new death warrant! On October 13, 1999, PA Governor Ridge signed a new death warrant against Mumia. Mumia's attorneys filed a habeus corpus petition in Federal district court and the Federal judge has issued a stay of execution while that petition was being considered. On December 18, 2001, Judge William Yohn ruled on Mumia's habeas corpus petition and overturned Mumia's death sentence but refused to overturn the trial verdict or order a new trial. Mumia and abolish the racist death penalty. We aim to be part of the huge
wave of international protest, freeing Mumia and making this a focus for a
broad struggle against the barbarous use of legalised murder - the death
penalty. We are leafleting, fundraising, organising events, telling people
about Mumia's plight, and seeking support and endorsements from as many
