Justice Souter of the U.S. Supreme Court recently granted Pennsylvania an extended filing deadline for their reply to Mumia's petition for a writ of certiorari that was filed at the end of April. Pennsylvania now has until June 24 to file their reply.
Since the last schedule conference of the justices is on June 24 (with decisions to be announced June 28), it seems unlikely that the court will act on Mumia's petition this term (although it technically could happen).
The time line that we are now looking at is a response by the Supreme Court after the fall term begins (first Monday in October). Mumia will also have to file his petition for habeas corpus by the end of October, because of the one year deadline set by the Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996. This means that the next battle in the courts will be starting up in October.
Our September activities are planned to put us in the strongest position to mobilize for that battle.
