Mumia Abu Jamal is an award winning Black journalist and radio commentator. he has been on death row for 15 years for the shooting death of a Philadelphia police officer. He was convicted despite clear evidence of his innocence and gross misconduct by the police, District Attorney and the judge at his trial. His case is currently before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Key witnesses against Jamal have recanted their previous testimony, stating that they were coerced by police. Mumia Abu Jamal's case has won national and international support, ranging from resolutions signed by scores of European members of parliament to the broad support around the country. His attorney Leonard Weinglass notes "Mumia considers his case not as a vehicle for his own salvation, but a vehicle to help all 3100 death row prisoners, and the 1.5 million who are languishing in a prison system that is completely out of control".
Important Emergency Response: In the event that the Pennsyvlania Supreme Court rules against Mumia Abu Jamal's appeal, there will be an emergency demonstration the following day at 5 pm at Powell & Market Street in SF
