Several hundred supporters greeted Mumia Abu-Jamal's appearance once again in the Philadelphia courtroom of Judge Albert Sabo.
The purpose of the special hearing was to take the testimony relating to Pamela Jenkins and the new information she brings to the case. For background see Mumia Fact Sheet #16. Only a few days after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered Sabo to hear her testimony, Ms. Jenkins was arrested on felony charges relating to an old incident by the Philadelphia police. Bail money was raised on the spot by Mumia's supporters. The last witness to come forward to testify in support of Mumia, Veronica Jones, was also arrested in retaliation.
Pamela Jenkins stood strong, however. Virtually spitting in the cops face, she not only upheld the information given in her earlier affidavit, but provided a new bombshell. Ms. Jenkins testified that on March 5 of this year, she not only ran into the missing witness Cynthia White, but saw White flee from her and hop into a pickup truck driven by former Philadelphia police officers known to her. This corroborates the contention of the defense that the Philly police have been hiding Cynthia White to prevent her being called to testify by Mumia's legal team.
There was further testimony in the afternoon by several police officers. The hearing will continue on Monday. More complete report to come.
