Note: Mumia was returned to SCI-Greene here in Western Pennsylvania on August 17, 1995. Based on the size of the boxes holding his mail, he received over 10,000 letters over the summer! He will get a chance to go through the boxes, but the guards told him due to the sheer volume they would not slide it all through the food/mail slot in his door. Mes Amis, My Friends, Dear Ones!
It is humanly impossible for me to answer each and every person that wrote these past weeks (officers have told me seven boxes of mail came while I was at court)! So I must use this method of letting all know my sincerest thanks for your bold and unprecedented efforts on behalf of life and true justice.
Thank to many people just like you. August 17th wasn't my last day of existence on this planet, but another day in the continuing struggle for not merely Life, but freedom.
We have taken some important steps, and no doubt, have some more important steps to take, but as Mao said. "The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step" -- we have begun. Your presence, whether in prayer or in the flesh has lightened this journey considerably.
