New Poster from NYC Refuse & Resist!
Remember the Brookline Massacre! On December 30th 1994 John Salvi 3rd walked into a clinic in Brookline Mass., and shot receptionist Shannon Lowney to death. He then ran to another clinic and shot Leanne Nichols to death. Many others were wounded in the attacks. Salvi acted with the blessing of "Christian" fascists, who have praised murderers of abortion providers as heros.
To coincide with the anniversary of the Brookline Massacre, and honour all those struggling to keep abortion available in this country in spite of harassment, injury and death at the hands of "Christian" fascists, Refuse & Resist! N.Y. is producing a poster.
Right now, Congress and Senate have just resorted to gruesome misrepresentation and misinformation to pass a bill banning one of the only methods of late-term abortion (dilation and extraction) considered by doctors to be safe for some women.
Legislation (abortion restrictions and welfare cuts) in many states is making it harder for women to obtain safe early abortions, so that more and more women, especially poorer and younger women, are being forced to seek more risky late termination.
Widespread harrassment of abortion providers by anti-abortion fascists has led to threats to evict clinics, and to the driving of more providers from the field. All this is part of the Right's strategy for control and suppression of women. Women are under attack!
We can not stand by and let this happen. This poster celebrates the determination to defend those dedicated to providing abortion services, as a vital aspect of women's right to reproductive freedom. It exposes antiabortionists real work of murder and intimidation.
Posters will be black orange and white, 18" x24", with slogans: Our Lives On The Line, and We Will Defend Abortion Providers! background image of women demonstrating, small insets of S. Lowney and L. Nichols with account of Brookline massacre, and probably long list in small text of antiabortion atrocities in the last 4 or 5 years. And R&R logo.
Distribution of the poster is planned just before holidays begin. To bring this exposure to walls around the country we need hundreds of posterers, and money.
