Come to Dayton July 13-19th, 1997
The anti-abortion Operation Rescue National has announced an "Return to Truth" (or, more accurately, "Continue the Lies") campaign for Dayton July 13-19. They are bringing major anti-woman/anti-abortion leaders (including Joseph Sheidler and Randall Terry) to Dayton to train and rally troops to harass women going into abortion facilities, threaten doctors and staff and try to close clinics. They plan in particular to target Dr. Martin Haskell. Dr. Haskell helped develop the D&X procedure for later abortions and has testified in Congress against efforts to ban it. (The antis call this procedure "partial birth abortion," a term they invented in order to play on people's emotions and falsely equate abortion with infanticide.)
Pro-Choice forces are planning a counteroffensive. Organizations and individuals are working together to plan and coordinate pro-choice events, to expose and oppose the antis, and organize support for abortion clinics. If you can get to Dayton with a sleeping bag, housing will be available. If you can't, send financial contributions to support the work and send messages of support to Dayton providers.

Sunday July 13, 4:30pm: Counter protest outside OR's opening rally. Christ Life Sanctuary, 4555 Marshall Rd. Kettering. Bring whistles, signs, banners, costumes and appropriate props. OR wants to set the tone, and gear their troops for a week of attempted harassment. Let's show them what we think of this.
Tuesday, July 15, 7pm: Pro-choice community Forum on Late Term abortion. 175 Millett Hall, Wright State Univ, Dayton. Panelists and audience will address various legal, medical and personal perspectives.
Thursday, July 17, Noon: Operation Rescue is holding a "funeral procession for fetal remains" at the Courthouse Square. Come out to counter them with the commemoration of lives lost to illegal abortion and celebration of women's lives continued because of access to legal abortion.
Monday - Friday July 14-18: The antis have announced "street activities" from 7-11 am daily. Be on alert to defend women, providers, and clinics. Call 513-767-6410.
Each evening the antis will rally at Christ Life Sanctuary. Call for updates, the antis have said their schedule is subject to change.
